The 3rd Annual Science and Technology Conference in 2010 is shaping up to be a well attended event with interesting speakers and attendants confirming their participation in advance.

According to Professor Francis Hombhanje the conference will be a lively event.

"The Organization Committee recieve overwhelming response with about 114 papers from all sectors. THW DWU is facilitating the conference for OHE. Every year an institution is responsible to host the event and 2010 is for DWU. Next year will be at UNRE so forth. The conference is on the 10th to 20th August 2010, at the Divine Word University in Madang."

The aim of the conference is to bring researchers, technicians, engineers and other scientists together to share ideas, make presentations, and discuss topics of interest in their fields.
Ultimately the goal is to make policy makers realize that importance of making science and technology a core foundation block of PNG’s development. Conference organizers expect the event to be a success.

Gas Powered Air Condtion at PNG Ports

E-mail Print PDF

Gas powered air-conditioning has been installed at the the PNG Ports Corporation Training Center in Lae, Morobe Province.
PNG Ports CEO Brian Riches said the installation will see a reduction of 38 percent in CO2 emissions compared to diesel generated electricity. The gas powered system uses only around 10 percent of the electricity required for equivalent electric air-conditioning system and requires 90 percent less electricity standby power and has a longer plant life (not verified).
It is a reverse cycle air conditioning system, with a compressor operated by a gas engine rather than an electric motor.
The Gas Powered Air Conditioning System (GPACS) is supplied by Origin Energy (PNG) Limited. Can the Origin engineers provide some more details on this system?

Is the route of the PNG LNG submarine pipeline dangerous?

E-mail Print PDF

We would love to get our hands on a geotechnical engineering firm’s report stating that the proposed PNG LNG submarine pipeline that will bring gas from the field to the LNG plant in Port Moresby is flawed and dangerous because it runs across active fault lines.
The firm Geosite Management Limited headed by Geologist Sigl Samson Dorugl states that they believe, from their research, that these fault lines are active and will affect the LNG pipeline.
